Description
Glaciers Gone Collection
Malaspina Glacier
The Malaspina Glacier in southwestern Alaska, is the largest Piedmont glacier in the world. It is approx 3900 sq kilometers in area and up to 600 meters (2000 ft) thick. It is estimated that this glacier has accounted for half of one percent of the global rise in sea level since the 1980s.
This is an abstract glacier painting from my Glaciers Gone collection. Most of the paintings in this collection reference actual glaciers, although there are others that take a particular theme, such as Glaciology. The glaciers of the world are disappearing at an astounding rate. The reasons for this may be disputed by some but there is no doubt it is occurring. My purpose in creating these paintings is to raise awareness of the situation and to explore in a unique way the idea of disappearance, as well as the broader of themes of humans and nature or humans vs. nature..
As of November, 2016, this original painting is available to purchase. Please contact me through my personal website www.tatiana-iliina-paintings.com or the contact form here linked on the tabs above.
